River Haven encampment called success By Kevin Clerici
A year-and-a-half after River Haven was formed, the novel effort to move homeless individuals and families with children out of the Ventura River bottom and into a city-approved encampment is succeeding. Since September 2005, more than two dozen camp residents have moved into conventional housing. Nearly 80 percent of residents who are not disabled or retired hold jobs and are paying the camp's $100 monthly rent while working toward self-sufficiency.
